Wedding Dress Dilemma

I’m currently de-cluttering and organizing my things trying to make my space more…what’s the word…appealing. When I came across my wedding dress. Now here is where you come in…should I sell my wedding dress?
image

I mean it IS every girls dream to have the dress on their wedding day but what becomes of it afterwards? It’s only been 1 year and a half since my wedding…is it because it’s too soon?

image

I have thought about keeping it for my daughter(s) so when they get married they can…wear it too? I mean they would happily wear it…no?

image

My oldest daughter  (who is only a mere 10 years old) had the longest face when I said to her I was planning on selling it. I explained to her that when she grew up I know that she would most likely want to get her own dress. But I don’t know, it took a convincing to get her to understand that because all she kept saying was…

“But I’ll be getting a dress for free!”

(I think I’ve taught my child how to think about spending her money very well – hence her saying “free”)

image

Now that I’ve convinced her that i’m going to sell the dress…how do I convince myself?

* I have a whole lot of pictures of my dress

* I don’t believe I would wear it again….?

* I know it’ll just sit in the box forever

* I’ll be taking a chance with any of my daughters if they will even wear it 20 years down the road

* If I do decide to keep it and then finally say, “ok, I’ll sell it on kijiji/craigslist” Then I’ll be like those women who has a picture of their dress, it looks like it’s so out of date/style and it completely looks like it belongs in a different era

image

At the same time I can’t even figure out why I want to keep it…but I can’t let it go.

Do any of you feel the same way?

What do you think….should I or shouldn’t I sell the dress?

PLEASE VOTE BELOW on  whether you think I should or shouldn’t sell my dress. I would love to hear everyone’s opinion. Let’s get the polls rolling and we’ll see if you’ve helped me make a decision. This should be fun!

Materials

11 Gold Noodles (30mm)
1 Gold button
White Chinese knotting cord (however long you want it)

1. Thread the button and double knot it. Make sure it’s really tight and secure.

image

2. Start threading those noodles. Also, what I did was put a knot in between each noodle, so they stay in place. Make sure you make it tight so it isnt too visible but not too tight where the noodle will slip through. Put a good space in between each noodle.

image

3. Now that all your noodles are in place they should look something like that last picture (4th picture, bottom right corner, above)

Now to finish it off, just do a simple loop knot and burn off the ends to seal it. This will prevent the Chinese knotting cord from fraying.

image

and voila! You are done. Pair it up with a bunch of other simple bracelets and you’re set!

Hope this was a simple tutorial and remember you can always make more in different colored Chinese knotting cords and pair them altogether to make it really pretty!

If Only I Was A Kid Again

The days were so long. The hours were excruciatingly slow…the summers seemed like it would never end and school was a drag.

I would give anything to go back to being a kid.

As a kid we always said, ” I can’t wait to be big!!”

But if only we knew what came with being a grown up…..

Bills

Chores

Responsibility

Work

Dependents

Debt

Maturity

I look back and wish I was still that kid that ran around in the back yard with no worries in the world. I can still remember the sun set as I played with my siblings until dark, nothing to worry about but what to play the next day. Slept like a baby without stressing about anything.

Now as an adult….everything is rushed. You rush out of bed, rush through breakfast, rush out the door, rush down the highway to work and rush back home and rush, rush, rush. No more time to do anything freely. You’re too pre-occupied about work and how to pay the next bill and to set food on the table.

Oh how I wish I can be 10 again….I wouldn’t be wishing to be so grown now that I know what it really is like to be a grown up.

I now find myself telling my daughter…don’t ever wish to grow up too quickly. Enjoy where you are right now because once you’ve grown….there is no turning back.

Only if…

Mug Smug

I’ve been meaning to buy a mug for my husband and myself for the longest time now but haven’t quite pushed myself to buy one.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen many mugs that are beautiful and have their own personalities to it but the price is also “nice.”   So, to buy one mug it’ll cost me $14.99 plus tax and to get two is double that. Now, I don’t know about you, but I sure don’t have that kind of money to throw away for mugs.

Therefore, I looked up some DIY mugs and there are a lot!!! I personally love the chalk based ones and the metallic pens.

Most of them are pretty simple supplies that you may have lying around

  • mug (can be a simple white or colored one)
  • Sharpies (all types of colors)
  • Metallic sharpies are pretty
  • Spray on Chalk (you can find these in crafts stores like Michael’s or I’m sure home Hardware stores)
  • Acrylic paint

Here are some that I’ve found that I would like to try once I get these supplies myself. Let me know which one you like or share your ideas as well. I’d like to see some interesting and unique ones 🙂

Second Hand Things

Guess what I’m currently checking on my phone…like always?

My Kijiji phone app.

No. I’m not here to advertise for them. I’m serious. I’m always ALWAYS on Kijiji.  On my phone or on my computer. I’m there. why you ask?

Let me ask you this.

How are you getting all this money to buy all this new stuff?

Why not look at another persons “junk” and make it your “treasure”?

I mean I can get something almost new for a better price don’t you think?

I know YOU reading this right now – ya you – you’ve gone on Kijiji or craiglist or even went for a Saturday stroll to a garage sale.

Hand me downs from someone else, maybe even furniture given to you for free.

yah. That’s the same thing bud. Going to buy something for $20 that’s been used is rhetorically sammmmmmmmmme thing. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I’ve even taught my daughter, who is now 10, that it doesn’t matter what you get.

The brand doesn’t matter. The price doesn’t matter. As long as you have that something you’re fine.

I tell her all the time, “Don’t ever think you have to have all the brand stuff just to make something out of yourself.”

No doesn’t mean I’m gonna buy all the stuff off Kijiji or second hand stuff. Just teaching her that don’t be ashamed of second hand or non-branded things.

Just turns me off when all I see are kids these days that whine and cry and bit*h ( pardon my language)about, “oh mom but I wanted the newest one that everyone is wearing!! Dad I wanted blah blah blah.”

Don’t get me wrong I would love to buy my kids the best things in the world, but I would rather give them the true meaning of self esteem, confidence and happiness.

This mom is out! oh yah 😉

Who Would’ve Thought?

An 80’s baby I am and here we are 2013, 28 years old finding myself falling to my past.

Who would’ve thought a nerd with his hoisted pants with suspenders to his chest is my 90’s memory?

Where the Fresh Prince came to follow?

When I walk through Wal-mart and say, ” OMG!!! Cabbage Patch Kids are back!! Oh YAH! When are Popples coming back?”

Where I start watching every single childhood movie and tv series from the get go….Gummi Bears, Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Full House…and the list goes on.

But you know what’s the best part…I’ve brought all these things back to my present and now my daughters are enjoying every single one.

Never have I thought I would share these childhood memories with my kids…..

Who would’ve thought?
